Opus Advisors and Veris Wealth Partners are pleased to present Sarah Symons, founder of Made By Survivors– an international nonprofit organization employing and educating survivors of slavery and human trafficking, and author of This is No Ordinary Joy: How the Courage of Survivors Transformed my Life.
At this joint Opus Presents-Veris Innovators Series event, Symons will discuss her personal and professional journey to empower women in their fight for freedom from modern slavery and to establish an innovative international organization dealing with the effects of the most severe human rights issues affecting women and children. As a unique entrepreneur and leader in the field, Symons has been recognized with the Sam Walton Foundation Entrepreneurship Award and the Count Me In Micro to Millions Award for women entrepreneurs. She has also been honored by the V-Day Foundation for her work opposing violence against women.
Made by Survivors’ mission is to free women and children from social and financial slavery by providing the tools to become independent, healthy and strong members of society. Working primarily in Southern Asia, Symons has developed a model for long-term, intensive intervention called the Prosperity Model. This model acknowledges that extensive interventions help deeply marginalized populations through building the skills and education that result in higher incomes and financial self-reliance. To help ensure prosperity, Made by Survivors focuses on training and employment for high-paying, high quality professions that significantly raise the income and social status of survivors, mainly training as goldsmiths and jewelers sold under the name Relevée (“to rise up,” in French).
Please join us on July 8th from 5:30-7:30pm at the home of David HIlls and Catherine McLaughlin-Hills at Emery Farm, 135 Piscataqua Road, Durham, NH. This will be a wonderful time to learn more and engage in discussion on these critical human rights issues and their solutions.
